In May Chris attended a lecture at Leeds Metropolitan University by one of the designers behind the wonderful planting schemes at the 2012 Olympic Park in London.
The mechanics of creating ‘naturalistic’ planting designs were discussed by James Hitchmough who went into depth about the concept and creation of the sweeping wildflower areas that cover the Olympic venue.
Professor Hitchmough, along with his design partner Professor Nigel Dunnett have recently come to prominence for their work in creating long lasting displays of wildflowers which regenerated run down sites across the city of Sheffield. Developing their own ‘Pictorial Meadow Mixes’ consisting of native and non native species of wild flower.
We used one of Professor Dunnett’s annual pictorial meadow mixes in our ‘Briarcroft’ garden (see the projects page for details) to great effect.
